Often Seen but Never Tried

“Every week someone comes in and says, ‘I’ve driven past this place for 10 years but never thought to come in.’” Mel, my waitress had asked me how I found the place. I had told her I have always seen in from the street, but this was my first time trying it out. She said it’s a common story. “Once they come in, they usually keep coming back.”

My third stop on ChandlerBlvd’s Breakfast Week tour is Wonderful Wanda’s. It’s a simple shop that serves up comfort and country style food for breakfast and lunch. The interior is neat and decorated but not fancy and the patio furniture is plastic. “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was playing overhead. The staff is nice and friendly (once we assuaged fears over the presence of a DLSR, ha. You know what they say about photographers.)

I asked my waitress what’s popular on the menu.

“This is your first time here?” she asked.

“Yep”

“Do you like biscuits?”

“Yep”

“Then you gotta try the Redneck Benedict.”

The Redneck is a biscuit cut in half and covered with sausage gravy. With two sausage patties on top. Covered with a fried egg. Covered with more gravy. I got a side of hash browns for good measure. It was good and healthy. And by healthy I mean filling.

Wonderful Wanda’s is in West Chandler, on Chandler Blvd west of Kyrene Road. They open every day at 7am, closing at 2pm on weekdays, 1pm on weekends.
